Your AI Assistant
The AI assistant operates like any other chatbot. You can ask it anything, and it will respond based on its best knowledge. What sets the Story Prism chatbot apart is its customization—it uses the unique content you've added to your notebook as its knowledge base. The more knowledge it has about your story, the more it can assist you.
Crafting Effective Questions
For the best outcomes, it's essential to frame your questions with clarity and precision. For example, if you're seeking assistance in crafting a character's backstory, you could command the chatbot like so:
"Please develop a backstory for my character"
The problem with this query is that if you have multiple characters in your notebook, the chatbot will then ask which character you wish to develop a backstory for.
A better command can be written like so:
"Please develop a backstory for David, my protagonist".
This command clearly states that you wish to develop a backstory for your protagonist, David. Framing your questions and commands like this will provide a better response from the chatbot.
To give greater clarity to the chatbot, you could tell the chatbot to use specific notes to come up with its response.
For example, you could frame your command like so:
"Please develop a backstory for David, my protagonist using the notes titled 'Protagonist: David' and 'David's likes and dislikes'."
This approach, where you explicitly state "using the notes titled..." followed by the specific title of the notes, guides the AI to deliver more accurate and relevant responses.
While being highly specific isn't always necessary, it becomes particularly useful when your notebook contains a large number of notes. In such cases, adding this additional command can help ensure that the chatbot focuses on the correct notes and provides more targeted and relevant responses.
In any case, the more precise your question, the more effectively the AI can assist you.
Interacting with Multiple Personas
You can also command the chatbot to "consult" with other chatbot personas before responding. This method sometimes provides much better responses. For instance, in your notebook, you could design multiple "expert" chatbots on a wide variety of subjects, and then command the chatbot to consult with these various experts before giving you a response. Here is an example:
"Please help me come up with a backstory for David, my protagonist. Consult with Sarah, the expert dialogue coach, Randy, the plot design expert, and Ralph, the historian to come up with your answer".
This technique is also invaluable for refining character dialogue. You can create two distinct chatbot personas representing your characters and then instruct the chatbot to generate dialogue from the perspective of both. This approach allows you to see how your characters would interact in various scenarios, helping to develop their voices and enhance the authenticity of their conversations.
Here is a short video tutorial showcasing this feature:
Ensuring AI Uses the Correct Notes in its Responses
If your assistant isn't using the correct notes, you can instruct it to disclose the specific notes it's referencing in its response. Just write,
"Before you answer, list all the notes you are using for your response."
Guiding the Chatbot
You can direct the chatbot's focus using pre-set commands available through the "guide chatbot" button, located at the bottom left of the chatbot window. This feature is a potent tool that shifts the chatbot to specific actions listed there. These actions represent finely tuned capabilities of the AI, serving as powerful enhancements to assist with your writing.
Here's how you can use specific actions to guide the chatbot in your writing tasks:
Work on Characters: Select this action to direct the chatbot to concentrate on character development.
Work on Plot: Choose this action to have the chatbot focus specifically on plot-related aspects.
Work on Screenplay: Use this action to instruct the chatbot to help with screenplay writing.
Why am I getting an error message saying the AI can't respond?
Error: AI Unable to Respond
If you see an error message saying the AI assistant can't provide a response, it usually means that one of your entries in the Notebook Memory has exceeded its character limit.
Understanding Character Limits (Notebook Memory):
Each entry in your Notebook Memory has a maximum number of characters it can contain. This limit depends on your subscription plan:
Free Plan: 5,000 characters per entry
Basic Plan: 25,000 characters per entry
Standard Plan: 50,000 characters per entry
Premium Plan: 100,000 characters per entry
How to Fix the Error:
Identify the Over-Limit Entry: The error message should clearly indicate which entry has exceeded its limit. Look for a specific note title or identifier in the message.
Reduce the Text: Edit the identified entry and shorten the text content to be within your plan's limit. Here's how:
Summarize: Condense the information, focusing on the most essential points.
Break it Down: Divide the information into multiple, connected entries. This is generally a good practice for better organization. [Link to "How do I use the Notebook effectively?" FAQ]
Save Your Changes: Once you've reduced the text, save the entry.
Important Notes:
The character limit applies to the text description of each note.
Tags, Titles and connections to other entries do not count towards the character limit.
The AI assistant considers all enabled entries in your Notebook Memory when generating responses. However, the character limit applies to each entry individually.
